Applying the practices outlined in the <strong>Carbon Forestry Manual<\/strong> will allow the fight against climate change to be linked to more active forest management, capable of generating employment and improving the profitability of farms. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main challenges in areas linked to cork oak forests is the seasonal nature of a significant portion of forestry employment. Cork harvesting, an emblematic and highly specialized activity, concentrates a significant demand for labor during a relatively short period of the year. LIFE CO2RK proposes complementing this activity with silvicultural work distributed throughout the different seasons.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Year-Round Forestry Work<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/yuntas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG_0410-TINY.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3287\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7500054455553378;width:513px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yuntas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG_0410-TINY.webp 768w, https:\/\/yuntas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG_0410-TINY-225x300.webp 225w, https:\/\/yuntas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG_0410-TINY-600x800.webp 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Improving carbon sequestration requires maintaining healthy, resilient, well-structured forest stands with the capacity for regeneration. This involves regular actions that, in addition to promoting CO\u2082 sequestration, require significant participation from forestry workers and companies.<br\/>These actions include the installation and maintenance of fencing to protect regeneration, thinning to regulate competition between trees, densification and planting in areas with insufficient regeneration, as well as selective clearing, the opening and maintenance of firebreaks and paths, and the treatment of the resulting biomass through chipping or mulching. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These tasks do not have to be concentrated in a single season. Planning them at the farm and territorial level allows for the distribution of actions throughout much of the year, generating a more continuous demand for forestry crews, machinery, transport, and auxiliary services. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This effect can be especially relevant in rural areas where job security is one of the main challenges for the forestry sector. In contrast to a model based on isolated campaigns, Carbon Forestry promotes <strong>ongoing forest management and, consequently, greater stability in the associated economic activity<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More jobs and greater specialization<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The application of these practices can generate employment both directly on the farms and indirectly in companies that provide forestry services. Specialized operators, transporters, forestry technicians, and professionals responsible for planning and monitoring operations are all part of a value chain that can be strengthened. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, the development of carbon certification systems introduces new professional needs related to the <strong>measurement, monitoring, and verification of sequestered CO<\/strong>\u2082, the management of forestry and environmental information, and the certification of the results obtained.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strengthening cork production<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The expected economic benefits do not come solely from silvicultural work. These resources can help finance silvicultural activities that are currently difficult to undertake solely with traditional farm income. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This creates a virtuous cycle: <strong>carbon-related income helps finance forestry work; These projects generate rural employment and improve the condition of the cork oak forest; and a better-managed cork oak forest can Storing more carbon, becoming more resilient to climate change, and maintaining or increasing cork production.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Investing in carbon is investing in the land<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The potential socioeconomic impact of LIFE CO2RK should therefore be understood as extending beyond the carbon market.
